A few words about Kolossi Castle:
Kastro is a medieval fortress, located 11 km west of the city of Limassol, built on the southern edge of the village of Kolossi in the core of the richest valley of Southern Cyprus. The Medieval Castle at Kolossi had served as an excellent example of military architecture. It was originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt in its current form in the 15th century. After the fall of Accra in 1291, it served as the headquarters of the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and in the 14th century came under the rule of the Knights Templar. During their stay in Cyprus, the Knights produced a sweet wine, which became known as "vin de Commanderie". Today, Commandaria wine is one of the traditional wines of the island and one of the oldest wine names in the world, maintaining the same name for eight centuries.
A few words about Omodos:
Omodos is a village in the province of Limassol. Located at an altitude of 575 meters above sea level. Omodos was probably created at the end of the Byzantine period. The reason for the establishment of the settlement is the dissolution of the settlements of Pano and Kato Koupetra. The inhabitants created a new settlement around the original monastery of the Holy Cross, which was named Omodos.
A few words about Agros:
Agros is a village in the province of Limassol and is built at an altitude of 1000 meters. The village of Agros took its name from the Monastery of Megalo Agros which was built on the site where today is the Church of Panagia Agros. The great iconoclast and abbot of the then monastery of Panagia Eleousa, called "Saint Theophanes in the great Field".
A few words about the Tzelefos Bridge:
The "Bridge of Tzelefos", is located at an altitude of 440 meters in the forest of Paphos, 6 kilometers from the Turkish Cypriot village of Agios Nikolaos, and is the largest stone Medieval bridge on the island. It is also built on the river Diarizo which feeds the fence of Arminos. It was built during the Venetian occupation in Cyprus and belongs together with two other bridges (that of Elia and that of Routhkia) to a complex of Venetian bridges that were built to serve the access of the then inhabitants of the area. Various interpretations have been given as to the origin of the name of the bridge, but none has been confirmed. It may come from the ancient Greek word "Kelefos" which means weak, sick and is associated with an incident or person during its construction.
Starting point: Tzelefos Bridge
Length: 7 kilometers
Time: 4 hours
Degree of difficulty: 1- 2
Points of interest:
The Tzelefos Bridge consists of a pointed arch built of bricks, probably of on-site construction. At the ends of the arch there are stones well chipped, and in excellent condition, as well as at the top, at the "key of the bridge", where it is the most sensitive point. On the south side, a small cross can be seen engraved on a stone. Characteristic of the bridge of Tzelefos is the high height from the riverbed and the small width of the road.
The "Olive Bridge", like others in the surrounding area, is estimated to have been built in the 16th century. Its name seems to have come from the olive tree that was rooted near it, which is quite unusual for the altitude at which it is located and the relatively cold climate of the area. The stone, steep bridge has a relatively narrow passage, since at that time the movements were done either on foot or on animals.
